These Strawberry Hearts are a cute and healthy treat for Valentine’s Day!
Does your children’s school do treats for their Valentine’s Day parties? Meghan and Luke go to different schools this year, and Meghan’s school does not allow any food (which really makes things easy) while Luke’s school has parents bring in snacks.
This year I signed up to bring one of the snacks for his party. I was brainstorming ideas for cute Valentine’s themed fruit and came up with these Strawberry Hearts.
They were simple to make, festive and cute, and a healthy option for the kids.
You don’t have to have special knife skills or even a heart-shaped cookie cutter to make these adorable treats. I didn’t have a heart cookie cutter, and this idea inspired me to make my own with something I already had in my pantry.
Let me show you how quick and easy these Strawberry Hearts are to make!
How to Make Strawberry Hearts
Step 1: Find a small (6 ounce) sized can, remove the top and bottom, empty it of its contents, and clean it well.
6 ounce cans work well.
Step 2: Bend and manipulate the the can into a heart shape.
This will take a little muscle to bend the can, but I was able to do it without any help.
Step 3: Start with a large strawberry.
Bigger strawberries work best because of the size of the can. Smaller strawberries still work, they just look less like hearts than the bigger ones.
Step 4: Remove the top of the strawberry and cut it in half length wise.
Step 5: Use the can to press down on the strawberry and make a heart shape.
Save the excess strawberry for another use, such as smoothies or muffins.
With a regular heart-shaped cookie cutter you might get more perfectly shaped hearts, but I actually love the cartoonish look of these.
Step 6: (Optional) Add a bamboo skewer to make it look like the heart has been shot with cupid’s arrow.
For those of you who prefer printed directions, here’s a printable version for you!

If you’re thinking: Hey, thanks, Maryea, but I could have used this tutorial yesterday! I apologize.
I actually had another post planned for today and wasn’t going to post this one at all. At the last minute I changed my mind and decided I really wanted to show this to you. They are just too easy and cute and even if you can’t use the idea until next year, I still wanted to share it.
Since there is always next year, I would love it if you’d pin this to save the idea! Here’s an image to save to your ideas board:
