We had a special weekend with family celebrating Meghan’s First Holy Communion. My throat tightens up looking at this picture as it is a vivid reminder of how my baby girl is growing into a lovely young lady, much too fast. Always too fast.
Here are more pictures of our weekend if you’d like to see.
Tim and my parents live 9 and 12 hours away, so we never get to see them at the same time. Weekends like this are extremely rare, so we treasured this time with both families. Out of our siblings, only one of my brothers and three of his kids were able to make it, but we were grateful they were here, too.
We’ve been working on redoing our outdoor space and they finished just in time. They literally were here putting the final touches late Friday afternoon. We won’t talk about when the project was supposed to be finished. (*cough* November *cough*)
Saturday night we had great weather and were able to enjoy our first gathering in the new space. Here are my brother, Tim, and my dad using the new grill for the first time.
We had beef tenderloin, grilled vegetables, and salad.
Here are Meghan, Luke, and three of their cousins waiting for their dinner.
Tim and my brother started a fire after dinner.
Later, the kids enjoyed an outdoor movie and s’mores. No, I don’t deny my kids s’mores when my brother shows up with all the goodies to make them.
Sunday was Meghan’s big day. She has been anticipating receiving her First Communion for a long time, and it was such a special moment to watch it.
Luke was clearly not excited about wearing a suit.
She proudly told her friend on the way to school today, “I got a picture with Father Brian!”
The rare picture with all four of us.
Meghan with my parents(Grammy and Papa).
And Meghan with Tim’s parents (Nana and Poppy).
After her First Communion, we had a small family celebration at our house.
We had a simple brunch menu. I kept the food items pretty easy. Here’s a standard vegetable tray with dip and a trio of fresh berries.
Cheese and crackers.
I almost forgot to photograph these! I loved these Egg and Cheese Stuffed Tomatoes, inspired by a dish I had on our Mexico vacation.
Meghan’s favorite Orange Chocolate Chip Muffins. So good.
I added extra chocolate chips to the top, and it was a great idea.
Unpictured food items included ham and quiche.
And there was cake, of course.
My cake decorating skills are lacking, so I didn’t even attempt to make Meghan’s First Communion cake. The place I got it from uses organic ingredients and the cake was delicious.
It was a memorable First Communion Weekend that I know Meghan will cherish. Thanks so much for reading and I hope your weekend was great, too. xoxo
